Chapter 17: First Success

There was very little sound outside the chamber, but inside the woman tied to the pole was moaning loudly. Her features were contorted into a mask of pain, and the muscles of her fine, young body were straining against the ropes that held her standing by that pole. Gato had, at the doctor’s orders, used a lot of rope and made sure that she almost could not move at all. In addition to the numerous windings of ropes around her body, he had used duct tape to secure her neck to the pole and then again at the level of her forehead so that she could not even move her head. Sorren had apparently wanted to make sure that this one could not injure herself during her struggles.

The volume on the speakers was turned down so that only a faint hint of her suffering came through.

“Yes, this is better,” Sorren was saying. “Modification 12-B is apparently causing much less pain. Good, good.” He was nodding as he made notations on his clipboard.

For his assistant, it was a shame that the subject was not feeling the levels of pain that the prior one had. She had screamed her head off and struggled fiercely. This one was suffering, true, and that was pleasant for Gato, but it could have been a much better show.
