Dorothy wasn't thinking much, just lying in bed unable to sleep, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom. But as time ticked by...

Everett's shower seemed to be taking unusually long.

Half an hour had passed, and there was still no sign of him coming out.

She sat up in bed, slipped into her slippers, and tiptoed to the bathroom door.

The door was securely shut, revealing nothing! She could barely make out a silhouette moving inside.

Left with no other choice, Dorothy reluctantly knocked on the door.

"Everett?"

The moment she spoke, the person inside abruptly stopped moving.

"Are you okay? You didn't pass out from the heat or anything, did you?" "No."

Everett's voice, when he finally spoke, was hoarse and barely recognizable.

Dorothy had been around the block enough times to know something was up without needing further explanation.

She quickly pulled her hand back, figuring it was best not to interrupt Everett's "moment".
