When she returned home in the evening, Lysander explained to her parents the unexpected situation that had occurred at the Everhart residence that day.

Maverick said, “At our age, we all have elders to care for and children to look after. And most of the elderly are in their seventies or eighties. This is something we can understand. We can have a meal anytime. Tending to Old Mrs. Everhart’s health is of utmost importance.”

Lysander gave a hum of acknowledgment. “Mom, Dad, how about I take you out for dinner now?”

Maverick waved his hand dismissively. “I’m so fed up. I don’t even feel like eating anymore.”

Confused, Lysander looked toward her mother.

Laura helplessly said, “It’s Michelle. She mentioned something about a high school get–together, and not long after she came back, she went out again. It’s already so Tate, yet she hasn’t returned. I’ve been calling her, but no one’s answering. She’s a young girl, and it’s so dangerous for her to be out late at night.”

Maverick, infuriated, slammed his hand on the table. “No, I must go find her.”

Laura grabbed his arm. “Where are you going to look for her? Do you have any idea where she might be?”

Lysander asked in confusion, “Did Michelle mention where she was going when she left?”

“She didn’t bother mentioning it, considering how distracted she was. Before I could even finish my sentence, she had already left.”

Lysander said, “Let’s do this. You two should eat first. I know a few of her high school friends..I’ll ask them where they are gathering, and then I’ll go pick up Michelle.”

Once she stepped outside, Lysander made a few phone calls.

However, the outcome was somewhat worrisome as Michelle’s classmates were completely unaware of any planned get–together.
