Avery’s POV

I had just barely recovered from that morning’s run-in with Gideon. The way he had played with Bjorn, so sure and steady, kept flickering through my mind like those few moments in the backyard were playing on a movie reel.

More than that, I kept thinking about the ease with which he caught the ball before it hit my face. The tender look in his eyes that made my wolf purr with contentment when she had been very much not content for a decade.
