Megan had always known that Ivy’s mom wasn’t exactly the nurturing type. Back in college, Megan had often stood up for Ivy, though it had seemed to do little good.

Ivy felt a genuine sense of embarrassment. She rarely reached out unless she needed something, and now here she was, inviting Megan for a meal because she needed a favor.
