Symeon stood at the top of the stairs, watching Amanda as she left the house. After she had gone, he turned slowly.

As he turned, he happened to spot Casey emerging from around the corner in the hallway. He paused for a moment, his brow furrowing in surprise.

Casey walked toward him, and Symeon asked, “What are you doing here?”

“I went to check on Dulcie. She’s asleep.”
