Before regaining her memory, Mila had forgotten Nathan for ten years.

Mila’s appetite disappeared. She stood up with her phone in hand and said, “Grandpa, take your time. I have something to take care of.”

Mila went into her room, closed the door, and sat down on the edge of her bed. She stared at Nathan’s number on her phone. Her finger hesitated over the dial button.

She missed him terribly, even though it had only been two days since they had last spoken. She longed for the sound of his voice, to know where he was and what he was up to. Normally rational and unaffected by emotions, she found herself struggling to control her feelings. Her finger unconsciously pressed the dial button..

Her heart was racing. Her nerves were on edge and her palms began to sweat. Soon, Nathan’s soft voice came through, “Wanda, is something wrong?”

“Am I not allowed to call you if everything is okay?” Mila replied with a slight annoyance.

There was a silence on Nathan’s end. Usually, Mila only called him when she needed something. He thought that maybe this time she just wanted to talk to him.
