Looking thoughtful, Elisa paused briefly before approaching Gareth. The latter stood still with a frown.

Then, Elisa spoke softly at a volume only audible to Gareth. "Please wait for me to return."

Her tone was serious and firm.

Gareth lifted his brows but did not answer.

Worrying that Julia would notice something was off, Elisa said with a smile, "Grandma, let's go."

"Okay."

With that, Elisa escorted Julia to the car and drove her home.

She drove at a faster speed than usual but in a steady manner. Neither did she violate the traffic rules.

She feigned a cheerful look and chattered with Julia, but no one knew how distressed she was.

Elisa felt guilty when she perceived that Julia was keen to continue chatting upon arriving home.

However, for Julia's sake, she could not waste more time. So, she suppressed her dismay and said to Julia, "Grandma, I just received a text from my colleague. I might have to leave first."

Julia nodded in understanding. "Sure, go ahead. Come and visit me again when you're free."

Elisa nodded with a beam and left.

Julia walked Elisa out to the foyer. Elisa did not stop her because the car was in the garage. After getting into Gareth's car, she forced a perfect smile and waved at Julia.

"Bye, Grandma," Elisa mumbled in the car, so Julia could not hear her but could only see the movement of her lips.

Julia waved back at Elisa tenderly while Elisa drove away.

Little did Julia know tears flowed down Elisa's cheek the moment she left.

Grandma is the only person who dotes on me the most through these years. She always looks out for me, but now…

Elisa took a deep breath. The diagnosis did not signify the end of Julia's life. As long as she maintained an optimistic attitude, there were ways to prolong her life.
