Angie was stunned to see Luke.

Why was he here?

Had he not done enough to her?

What was he doing here?!

"Who are you?" Cedric had never seen Luke in person before.

With his hands in his pockets, Luke strutted over to Cedric in an elegant but languid manner. "Let me introduce myself. I am Luke Adams, Maddie's older brother."

"Luke Adams? You are Luke?" While Cedric had never officially met Luke, he had heard of the man before.

He knew that Madeline had two good friends and that they were brothers who studied and worked under Madeline's master. However, it seemed that Madeline got into a fight with them, which led her to cut off all ties with the two brothers.

While a lifetime was not forever, it was not short either. It was normal for people to come and leave each other's lives.

At first, Cedric did not care much about Madeline. Hence, he had already forgotten who exactly had told him about the Adams brothers. He did not think much of the matter either after he knew about it.

It was why Luke's sudden appearance and his obvious hostility bewildered Cedric. "What do you mean by that?" he asked, confused.

How was it any of his business who Luke was to Madeline?

What was with the passive-aggressive tone in Luke's voice when he was the one to barge in out of nowhere?

"Nothing much." Luke studied him from head to toe. "I heard Maddie found her biological family, so I am here to test if her new family was treating her well."

"Are you crazy?" Cedric asked after a pause.

"Yes, I am!" There was no anger in Luke's eyes despite being called insane. His lips twitched upward in a lazy smile as he continued, "However, I am not as crazy as you. You have it much worse than I do."

Cedric flew into a fit of rage. "What did you just say?"

"It's the truth," Luke solemnly said. "You are so crazy that you lack brains. In fact, your condition is so bad that the doctor should be prescribing you pills to counter your stupidity!"

Finally, Cedric understood what was going on. "Are you looking for a fight? What did I do to you? Why are you targeting me?"

Luke scoffed. "You aren't just stupid; you have no brain cells at all! After all that I have said, you still don't get what I am angry about? Maddie is a smart girl. Why is she cursed with an idiot for a brother? I am starting to suspect the DNA test was wrong and she is not related to the Wendels at all!"
Angie was stunned to see Luke.

Why was he here?

"Just what is it you want?" Cedric was furious. "Luke Adams, nothing has happened between us. Stop with the lies! Another insult and I will not hold back anymore!"

"I never once insulted you. I was merely speaking the truth." Luke pointed to Angie who was on the bed behind Cedric. "Do you know why she's stuck in bed?"

Cedric turned to glance at Angie. Her face was pale. Lying on the bed, Angie was trembling hard with eyes filled to the brim with fear.

"Why?" he asked with a frown.

"She mistakenly thought I hated Maddie and tried to make me attack her," replied Luke.

"No! You are lying!" she screeched. "I did not!"

"Don't listen to his lies, Cedric," she then said to her brother with panic in her eyes. "He's crazy and a liar. I have never done that! I have done nothing!"

Tears streamed down her pale cheeks, reaching her trembling lips. She looked so pitiful, but Cedric did not have time to be upset over that anymore.

Luke was likely speaking the truth.

After all, his parents had ordered him to cut off all contact with Angie.

If Luke was not lying, then Angie was hospitalized because she tried to scheme against Madeline, which led to revenge from Luke. Despite all that, Cedric still snuck out behind his parents' backs to visit Angie. If they found out, they would be exasperated.

When he recalled how his mother had to be rushed into an operating theater because he angered her so much over what happened with Angie and Madeline, he shivered hard, breaking out in a cold sweat.

There was not a single doubt in his mind that if that happened again, his father would actually disown him and chase him out of the family.

"Is that the truth?" he asked Luke, fear rising in him. "What proof do you have?"

"I don't need proof." Luke smiled. "I don't care if you believe it. I just wanted to know if you and Angie are truly close..."

With a happy grin on his face, Luke waved the phone in his hand and continued, "I recorded everything just now, especially how you two were looking into each other's eyes and holding hands while tears rolled down your cheeks. I will be showing the video to Maddie later. She will know who the best brother is once she watches it!"

Luke knew Angie would contact the Wendels as soon as her leg was broken.

Thus, he had been waiting outside to see who would come running in concern.
