However, Madeline and Leigh weren't comfortable with the idea of Belle going anywhere alone, for the elderly woman was too feeble. She had come in search of her second son and his wife with indignation, which meant that she wouldn't be in high spirits. If she got upset or worked up, her condition would worsen. As such, Madeline and Leigh were worried about letting the young and the old search for Brian and Rachael.

After some deliberation, Madeline asked tentatively, "Mrs. Carter, can Leigh and I tag along? We don't feel comfortable letting you go on your own when you're weak like this."

"Yeah." Leigh nodded in agreement.

At that, Alex held his grandmother's hand and looked up at her. "Grandma, please let Miss Madeline and Miss Leigh help us."

Belle's condition had the little boy worried. If he could, he wished to stay in Sanguine Mountain with his grandmother, but she didn't want to.

Belle said she hadn't seen her son for a long time, and she missed him very much. Since Brian wouldn't come to her, she would just go to him.

In the past, Belle couldn't come to Dusktown on her own, but she was fortunate to receive the Harts' help now. As such, she had to use this opportunity to come and find Brian, or she wouldn't even be able to see him one last time before she closed her eyes forever.

Alex had a nagging feeling that his grandmother wasn't telling the truth. She hadn't come because she missed his father. However, his grandmother was obstinate, and no matter how he cried and begged, she insisted on seeing Brian, or she wouldn't be able to rest in peace. Left with no choice, he could only come to Dusktown with her.

She wanted to see Brian now, but for some reason, Alex felt apprehensive with a strong sense of foreboding. He was in trepidation, and the feeling pressed him to do something. Hence, he was immediately tempted when Madeline and Leigh suggested going with them.

Belle's condition made him feel hopeless and helpless, and at this moment, his only hope was Madeline and Leigh. He then begged his grandmother to let Madeline and Leigh follow along.

In actuality, Belle wanted Madeline and Leigh to tag along and be witnesses. If it were just her and Alex, an elderly woman and a child, they could only suffer in silence when they were bullied since Dusktown wasn't her turf.

If no one was willing to help her, she could only depend on Brian and Rachael's conscience. However, did the couple have such a thing in them?! If they did, they wouldn't even think about ruining her beloved grandson.

They were even lesser than beasts, existences without an ounce of conscience in them.

However, this was a family affair, and only their family could resolve it. Any wise man wouldn't want to drag themselves into another person's family affairs, after all.

Madeline and Leigh were sweet young women. She didn't want to trouble the two or let them get stuck in a difficult position. Belle didn't say anything even if she wanted their help, but since Madeline and Leigh offered, coupled with the fact that Alex was looking pleadingly at her, she changed her mind.

With that, she turned to Madeline. "Maddie, Alex told me you have a law firm and that you accept commissions. How about this? I'll hire you to look after Alex and me. I'll pay you once I get the money from my son."

Madeline and Leigh had to have a justifiable identity if they were to follow her, an old hag, or people would only reprimand them for being busybodies.

"It's the least we should do, Mrs. Carter," Madeline said. "Alex is Aldo and Buddy's friend, and he even helped the twins in the past. It's only right that we help you as well."

"Well, either you accept my commission or Alex and I will just go ourselves," said Belle, leaving no room for negotiation.

Belle was an obstinate elderly lady, and no one could change her mind easily. Madeline resigned at that and nodded. "Alright, I'll accept your commission."

Either way, her law firm would only earn a profit if they took up cases from the rich. As for the common folks, especially those with financial difficulties, she would usually give them a good discount. Once this issue was settled, she would just accept a token charge from Belle, then repay it using other means via Alex later.

To be honest, as much as she didn't want to accept Belle's money, she was pleased with the elderly woman's attitude; ever since taking over Oasis Law Office, she had developed a hatred for ungrateful people.

Some people would gradually take her help for granted. Madeline took pity on many of her clients since they were financially troubled and would deliberately exempt some of the fees for them. They might have been appreciative in the beginning, but with time, they would push their luck and make even more outrageous demands.

Madeline had met people like this one too many times, and every time she did, she would shoo them away without hesitation and never accept their cases again. Even if they regretted their actions later and begged her on bended knees in front of her law firm, she would turn a blind eye to it.

There were a lot of people who needed help in this world, and she would rather help those who were grateful instead of heartless fiends.

Because of Alex, she had always respected Belle and would take extra care of the elderly woman. Despite so, Belle never took Madeline's respect and care for granted. Instead, she was grateful and always acted courteously toward them, seeing them as her savior.

Only people like Belle were worthy of her help.
