"Later, Mario's parents asked Mario to marry into the Ford Family. Mario tried to escape the marriage, but he failed and was imprisoned by his parents." Lucas then continued, "After Mario was imprisoned, the Griffin and Ford Families announced their union to the public. After my mother knew about it, she approached the Griffin Residence with her marriage certificate. It was only then that she knew that the marriage certificate in her hand was fake. At that time, she was pregnant with me and was about to give birth…"

"Your mother is so unlucky." Leigh showed sympathy. "If it were me, I would have poisoned Mario to kill that scumbag!"

Lucas stayed silent at that remark.

Then, Leigh asked, "What happened after that?"

"After that?" Lucas sighed. "Later, Mario's fiancée knew my mother was pregnant with Mario's child, so she went to my mother and asked Mom to abort the child. At that time, my mother was only a dozen days away from giving birth, so she was reluctant to abort me. Hence, Mario's fiancée sent someone to my grandparents' house to cause trouble. They also made everyone know that my mother was a mistress and the child in her womb was an illegitimate child…"

Leigh didn't say anything as she couldn't comment on it.

What Mario's fiancée did should be acceptable from an unbiased standpoint.

It was because no one wanted their husband to have an illegitimate child before the marriage.

However, Lucas' mother was innocent.

She didn't mean to be a mistress and have an illegitimate child. She was deceived by Mario, after all.

She had always thought she was the first wife with a marriage certificate and was carrying a child from wedlock. However, everything was fake.

Lucas' mother was deceived by the man she loved.

So, Leigh could imagine the despair in Lucas' mother's heart when she knew all this.

Aborting the child was the best choice for her, but the child would be born in ten days. After ten months of pregnancy, how many women would be cruel enough to abort the child?

Mario's fiancée was right, and Lucas' mother was wrong for not being smart enough and trusting Mario too much. The worst was Mario, who hurt both women at the same time.

Lucas sipped his wine and continued, "My grandparents are teachers. They abided by the law and educated students for their whole lives. Suddenly, their good daughter became a mistress and was pregnant with an illegitimate child. My grandpa was frail in health, so he fell ill on the day the Ford Family came to look for trouble, and he passed away within a few days. My grandma loved Grandpa, so she couldn't stand the blow and passed away soon after."

At that, Leigh could only say, "It's tragic."

"Yeah, it's tragic." Lucas sighed. "I was born on the day my grandpa died. Not long after I was born, my grandma died. My mother didn't care for her health during her pregnancy, so her health failed after giving birth to me. After slightly over two years, she passed away." Lucas then laughed at himself. "Don't you think I'm more of a jinx than you are?"

"Didn't you say it yourself? Jinxes don't exist," Leigh stated.

"Do you believe it?" Lucas raised his eyebrows at her. "If you believe that the jinx doesn't exist, I will do the same."

So, Leigh nodded firmly. "I believe in it. Jinxes don't exist. On the other hand, one's character determines fate instead. Your grandpa valued his reputation too much. After your mother was deceived and accidentally became the mistress everyone despised, he couldn't stand the humiliation to the point his health failed and he passed away. Your grandma and grandpa were deeply in love, so she was heartbroken and couldn't handle the sadness and passed away. As for your mother, she did not rest well during her pregnancy and destroyed her body, so she must have been depressed. Her health and worries mixed together for two years before it finally killed her. Hence, their characters decide their life; it has nothing to do with you."

Lucas commented, "Then, the death of your adoptive parents has nothing to do with you too."

"I'm different!" Leigh shook her head. "My parents died violently… They died in a car accident."

"What about your grandpa and master?" Lucas asked, to which Leigh replied, "My grandpa also died in a car accident. My master died of illness."

"There are more people who die from accidents than diseases in this world," Lucas murmured. "It can't be said that their relatives are all jinxes, right?"

After thinking for a while, Leigh nodded. "Okay, you have a point." Then, she paused and continued, "I won't believe it anymore, and neither should you."

To that, Lucas muttered, "I never believed it in the first place."

"That's great." Leigh stared at the man as she asked, "Did Mario ever look for you after your mother passed away?"

"He did." He then explained, "However, my mother hid me, so Mario couldn't find me. On the day she passed away, she took me along and we met my brother and father. Before she passed on, she begged my father and brother to help me find an orphanage. My brother liked me, so they did not send me to the orphanage. Hence, my father adopted me. Before my mother passed away, she didn't tell my father who my biological father was. She said I was an illegitimate child and begged my father to send me to the orphanage…"

"Stop!" She woved her hond ot him to interrupt him. "You're drunk ond hove storted tolking nonsense. I don't understond you onymore!"

Lucos frowned in silence. Hey! I'm not drunk! Alright, I did drink quite o lot, but i twos unknowingly. Now, my mind is o little dizzy ond moybe I sounded incoherent. However, it feels greot to soy everything thot is in my mind ofter bottling up these things for for too long.

So, he osked potiently, "Whot do you not understond? I'll exploin it to you."

However, Leigh held her chin in thought ond soid, "I forgot…"

At thot, Lucos poused for o beot before he muttered, "You should go to bed."

"I'm not tired yet." She tilted her heod to look ot him. "When did your fother know you were odopted by Philip?"

"Two yeors ogo," come his reply.

"He only found out the yeor before?" Leigh widened her eyes in surprise. "Didn't he love your mother? Didn't he look for you when your mother disoppeored with you?"

"Morio did." Lucos continued, "He's been looking for us oll this while. However, Mom took me into hiding ond we lived in seclusion, so he couldn't find me. Morio's porents forbode him to moke o big deol of it too. After my fother odopted me, he didn't wont onyone to know I wos on illegitimote child. He erosed the clues obout my mother ond me, so Morio couldn't find me."
