Caitlin and Howard talked for a long time.

Once the call ended, Caitlin ran to the bathroom and cried her heart out.

She cried until her voice turned hoarse and her body felt weak. When her tears finally stopped, she washed her face and took some time to compose herself before returning to the living room.

Madeline gave her a cup of warm water. "Are you feeling better now?"

"Thanks." Caitlin nodded. "I feel a lot better now."

Madeline pulled Caitlin over to the couch. "Katy, come and see. Sebastian just asked one of his men to send some documents over."

After sitting down on the couch with Caitlin, Madeline handed her a stack of documents. "Sebastian's men found out that Josiah Langley married Lucian's mother over a decade ago. They even have a son called Bobby Langley. Did you know about this?"

"What?" Caitlin was stunned as she took the documents from Madeline. "Josiah Langley and Lucian's mother are married?"

"Yeah," Madeline confirmed. "Sebastian's men looked into it and found out that Josiah Langley and Melvin Wheeler—Lucian's father—both liked Lucian's mother, Rosetta Zurich. They both went after her, but in the end, she chose Melvin."

Leigh, who was nestled on the couch with a glass of red wine in her hand, piped up when she heard that. "I can't help but wonder now. Do you think Josiah's the one who caused Melvin's death?"

Caitlin stared at Leigh in shock.

"I think it's possible." Madeline nodded. "Josiah had a strong motive for murder."

"Exactly," Leigh agreed. "Both Josiah and Melvin liked Lucian's mother, and Josiah married Lucian's mother after Melvin's death. Isn't that a clear motive for murder?"

"Also, Josiah had a chance to act on it too," Madeline added. "Mr. Gigantes was very clear just now. They were on a narrow path and had to walk in a single file. Mr. Owen was the first, with Mr. Gigantes behind him, then Lucian's father, and then Josiah who was last. This means that Mr. Owen and Mr. Gigantes had their backs toward Lucian's father and Josiah, and Lucian's father had his back toward Josiah too. Josiah was the last one. No one would have seen it if he reached out to shove Lucian's father and made him stumble down the slope…"

Caitlin was dumbstruck.

After a while, she stammered, "But… they're best friends…"

"Friends?" Leigh snorted. "Some people value friendships, but some people couldn't care less about betraying their so-called friends! Haven't you heard the saying, hell is other people? You never know the depth of depravity that a human is capable of! The evil among us is a lot more frightening than hell!"

"So… the person Lucian trusts is actually his enemy?" Caitlin commented dazedly.

"Does Lucian know that his mother married Josiah Langley?" Madeline asked.

"I don't know. We haven't spoken in a very long time," Caitlin replied. "Ever since he betrayed my father, all we ever do is fight when we see each other. I don't know how his mother got in touch with Josiah or how long they've been seeing each other. I don't know anything about it."

"I think we need to talk to Lucian." Leigh tapped her chin thoughtfully before cocking her head to the side to look at Madeline. "Let's get our business going, Maddie!"

Madeline was a little speechless. "Are you saying we should sell the information we found to Lucian?"

"Yes, that's what I meant." Leigh nodded. "Your husband's subordinates went through all that effort to gather this information. Why should we just let Lucian have it for nothing? We haven't officially opened for business yet, so let's start with Lucian!"

Madeline had nothing to say.

She looked over at Caitlin.

Caitlin nodded. "I think Leigh's right. Not only should he be charged for it, but he better pay through the nose!"

Since Caitlin agreed, Madeline figured it was a solid idea.

Leigh had a point. Sebastian's men went to great lengths to find the truth. Why should they share the information with Lucian just like that?

"Do you still have Lucian's contact?" Leigh asked Caitlin.

"I have his number," Caitlin replied. "I don't think he changed it."

"Give it to me. I'll talk to him." Leigh held her hand out in front of Caitlin. "I love doing business!"

Caitlin was a little speechless. "Alright."

She rattled off a number from memory.

Although Leigh didn't say anything aloud, she was tutting to herself, People rarely memorize other people's numbers these days, save for those they're closest to. It must be one of the most heartbreaking things in life to see lovers turning into enemies.

The call went through fairly quickly. Leigh put the call on speaker, and a cool, indifferent voice rang out through the phone. "Who is it?"

Leigh began to introduce herself. "My name is Leigh Shefford and I work for Oasis Law office. I'm also Katy's friend…"

"You're Katy's friend?" Lucian's voice became rather agitated. "Did something happen to Katy?"

Leigh eyed Caitlin and said, "Don't worry. She's fine. This call isn't about her. There's something I'd like to discuss with you."

"Please go ahead." Lucian's tone was a lot more courteous now.

"I'm currently in the possession of a few secrets regarding your mother and Josiah Langley," Leigh said. "If you wish to know what they are, I'll make the price very reasonable for you. 150,000."
