Chasing Back My Ex-wife
Chapter 40
"If you still like him, then why let him go?" Lucy sighed while holding the wet towel.
But what rights did she have to advise Kylah? She couldn't even handle her own relationship.
Lucy took more than 30 minutes to clean Kylah up and sat by the bedside quietly.
Arthur was in the living room, and she didn't want to go out there. If it wasn't because she was worried he would threaten Kylah and Maddox, she didn't even want to spend a single moment with him.
Thud!
Suddenly, the sound of something heavy falling to the floor came from the living room.
Lucy hesitated for a moment, then walked out with the wet towel in hand. She saw Arthur sitting on the floor, his pants stained with blood.
"What's wrong?" She walked quickly to his side. There was a note of worry in her voice that she didn't notice herself.
Arthur's handsome face was pale and his forehead was covered with cold sweat. He was still pretending to be tough. "I'm fine."
"... We'd better go to the hospital." Lucy tossed the wet towel to the floor, helped him up with some difficulty, and walked towards the door.
Arthur had intentionally leaned against her the night before to get touchy with her, but now, he really had no strength left. So he had no choice but to put his weight on her.
Lucy helped Arthur along and headed to the hospital as fast as she could.
The doctor was the same one who had treated Arthur the night before. "Young man, I reminded you not to run about and not to do vigorous exercises when I bandaged your wound last night. You didn't listen to me, did you? Young people these days are really..."
"It's my fault." Lucy interrupted the doctor's nagging a little nervously. "Doctor, is the injury serious?"
It wasn't because she cared about Arthur. She only felt that Arthur's wound had reopened while he had stopped her from falling, and she didn't want to be indebted to him.
"Actually, it's not that serious. But as compared to last night, it's definitely more serious now! How about this, young lady, you can arrange for him to get admitted to the hospital. Let your husband recuperate for a few days so he won't irritate his wound again." advised the doctor responsibly.
"Doctor, sorry for the trouble. I'll go handle the paperwork now." Lucy cut him off.
It was rare for other people to make decisions for Arthur, and he found it a little unusual and kind of...sweet.
Lucy didn't know what he was thinking about at all. She quickly went to deal with the paperwork for him to get admitted and brought him to the ward.
"I don't want to stay here!" Arthur had thought that they would be alone and get the chance to mend their relationship, so when he saw the three beds and some other patients in the ward, his face darkened instantly.
"Arthur, this is not a hotel. You can't just check in or check out as you please." Lucy stuffed the hospital gown into his hands and ignored his complaints. "I'll be outside. Draw the curtains and get changed."
With that, she went straight out.
Looking at the ugly hospital gown, Arthur took out his phone sulkily and called Max.
When Lucy returned with a basket of fruits, she saw Max waiting for her outside the ward. "Why didn't you go inside?"
"Ma'am, Mr. Johnson has switched wards. Please come with me." Max gestured for her to follow him.
Lucy pursed her lips and followed him to the VIP ward.
Compared to this ward, the earlier ward was more like a budget hotel while this one was a luxury suite.
She smiled icily. Arthur knew just how to enjoy himself no matter the situation!
Arthur had been gazing at the door the whole time, but when he saw her, he lowered his head and pretended like he had been on his phone the whole time.
Lucy cut a dragon fruit in half and stuck a spoon into it, then passed it to him. "Eat this."
That was her way of returning his favor.
"How did you know that I like dragon fruit?" Seeing Lucy being nice to him, Arthur spoke politely, hoping to hear her say something sweet.
"I was young and foolish, and I fell in love with a beast." Lucy took out a peach. "That's how I know."
Max was speechless.
It turned out that Lucy's dislike for Arthur was not a rumor!
He silently took a step back, waiting for Arthur to lose his temper. However, Arthur just ate the dragon fruit sullenly without any sign of losing his temper... Max was in disbelief!
Ring—
Ring—
Someone's phone rang.
Lucy answered her phone. "What's up, Maddox?"
Before Maddox could answer, Arthur stood up, grabbed her phone, and ended the call.
"Arthur, what are you doing?" Lucy frowned with a look of displeasure written all over her face.
Arthur deleted Maddox's phone number and tossed the phone on the bed. He said coldly, "You're not allowed to contact him anymore."
