Shirley immediately sat up straight.

“What is it? Tell me!”

“It's simple. We'll inform the Hoffman family about her affections and let them handle her.”

Shirley's eyes lit up when she heard that.

“That's right. Why didn't I think of that? Wendy already lost her purity and gave birth to a foreigner's bloodline, so there's no way they'll choose her to become the heir. That means the Hoffman family will have all their hopes pinned on Juliana. If we reveal her feelings to them, I bet Adrune will send someone to bring her back at the earliest opportunity.”

Zoey's lips curled into a smile. “Then, that's settled. Doesn't your family have contact with the Hoffman family? Try to think of a way to ensure that Adrune finds out about this matter.”

“Okay.”

At that moment, a maid holding a parcel came over. “Ms. Zoey, there's an urgent document that requires your attention. The butler told me to bring it over.”

Zoey swept a glance over the item and calmly said, “Put it on the table.”

“Yes, Ms. Zoey.”

Shirley got off the stone stool and stood up. “Give me a minute. I need to use the bathroom. We can go shopping afterward.”

“Sure thing.”

After Shirley and the maid left, Zoey picked up the cup and prepared to drink her coffee.

Just then, the phone on the table chimed.

Following the text message notification tone, a message popped up.

The message read: Ms. Zoey, you've probably received the document. Remember to look inside. There's a huge surprise waiting for you.

Zoey narrowed her eyes in suspicion at the unknown phone number.

Why am I the target? There must be a reason for this.

Her eyes landed on the parcel from earlier.

After a brief moment of hesitation, she tore open the packaging.

It contained four photos, a report, and a letter.

Zoey turned to the four photos first.

The first photo was of her mother while the second showed Bailey.

Zoey's expression darkened the moment she saw Bailey.

The third photo showed a young woman who looked to be about twenty-five years old.

Zoey's pupils dilated when she saw the woman's face.

Isn't this... No, it can't be. I've never been photographed while clad in such attire. It absolutely can't be me... But why does the woman in the photo look so similar to me? Our similarities...

Something prompted Zoey to go back to the first two photos, and she froze when she compared them.

Why does Bailey look so similar to Mom? What's going on?

A thought flitted across her mind, too fast for her to grasp.

Zoey flipped back to the third photo and stared at it for a moment before she seemed to realize something. She immediately threw aside the third photo to reveal the image in the last photo.

It's a picture of me!

Zoey was sure it was actually her. She then compared the third and fourth photos. The more she stared at them, the more panicked she felt.

Bailey looked like her mother, whereas she looked like the unknown woman.

This can only mean one thing.

Zoey dared not continue the line of thought.

The photo fell from her hands, and she frantically scooped the letter from the table.

The letter wrote: Ms. Zoey, does the truth about your parentage shock you? I'll give you a rundown. The woman who looks like you is Sophia Carr, my husband's ex-wife. She died in a fire over twenty years ago. As for why Bailey Jefferson looks like your mother, I'm sure someone as smart as you can figure out the reason. I heard that you were born on the same day and in the same hospital as Bailey. Tsk, tsk, tsk. All the hidden secrets. I'm sure you can use your imagination. After you've thought it through, you can check the report. Only then will everything be revealed.

Zoey's body began to shake.

She knew that she shared the same birthday as Bailey and was also aware that she had been born in the same hospital as the latter.

However, Zoey had never realized that Bailey looked like her mother and that she herself resembled Bailey's mother.

Zoey was not so dim that she could not guess the truth.

A bold idea emerged in her mind. At the same time, her heart continuously tried to reject it.

No. No way. I am Zoey Shurmer. I am the eldest daughter of Lostaria's Shurmer family. The noblest of blood flows in my veins.

There was no way she was related to a poor and humble family like the Jeffersons.

Zoey wavered between self-affirmation and rejection over and over again. Finally, she reached for the report on the desk.

The report stated: Paternity test.

Father: Clarence Jefferson.

Daughter: Bailey Jefferson.

The probability of the father and daughter being related is 0.0001. The two of them are not biologically related.

Zoey immediately sprang to her feet. Her eyes were wide as she glared at the conclusion in the last line of the report.

Bailey was not from the Jefferson family!

Then, whose was she? The Shurmer family?

No!

Zoey had no intention of allowing that to happen.
