It was a rather bad fall that she started bleeding.

In that instant, the entire Shurmer family went into chaos.

Waverly stood on the steps outside the infirmary with a grim face and stared at the group of servants.

“Why is there essential oil on the ground of the garden? Don't tell me it's a coincidence. Speak up! Who poured the oil here? Who is trying to kill the eldest grandson of the Shurmer family?”

All the servants did not even dare to let out a breath, let alone answer her question.

Waverly was furious when none of them owned up to the mistake. “Fine, fine. Since no one wants to say anything, I'm going to call the police. Let them bring all of you in for questioning.”

“No, I don't want to go to the police station. Once I'm being brought there, people will always look at me differently even though I'm innocent.”

“That's right, Mrs. Shurmer. We didn't do it. How can you send all of us to the police station? We're innocent.”

“Mrs. Shurmer, I have been working with the Shurmer family for so many years now. If you do that, aren't you worried that you will break our hearts?”

Waverly laughed out in anger. “Sure. As long as you can tell me who the culprit is, I won't send the rest of you into the prison for questioning.”

All the servants looked at one another.

After some time, a servant in her twenties stepped forward.

She glanced at Sammy and mumbled an apology to her before raising her voice, “Mrs. Shurmer, it's the butler. Last night, when no one was watching, she poured the essential oil on the bluestone pavement. Other than the garden, she also did it in the gazebo and the artificial lake.”

Sammy's face turned pale. She stared coldly at the servant who accused her before looking up at Waverly. “Mrs. Shurmer, please don't be fooled by her. Why will I hurt Ms. Gourd and her unborn child? I—”

“It's her.” Another servant stepped forward and testified against Sammy. “Last night, I also saw the butler sneaking around the artificial lake. She seemed to be doing something, but it was too dark for me to see clearly.”

“You—”

Waverly gazed at Sammy, and she appeared extremely upset. “Tell me. Why did you do it?”

Sammy remained silent. Since she had been exposed, she would have to accept her fate.

Zeke had promised to give her a huge reward that would allow her to live out the rest of her life in comfort. Thus, there was no way she would reveal the truth and expose him.

“A few days ago, I made a mistake and was given a few slaps by Ms. Gourd. She embarrassed me in front of so many housekeepers, and I got angry. That's why I wanted revenge.”

Waverly was no fool. She knew that Sammy was just looking for an excuse. Sammy had been working in the Shurmer family for so many years, and Waverly knew her well enough to know that there was no way Sammy would seek revenge just because she received a few slaps from Shirley.

“Mrs. Shurmer, the doctor says that the baby is safe for the time being. But, Ms. Gourd will have to rest in bed for the next few months. Otherwise, there is still a high chance of a miscarriage.”

Waverly let out a sigh of relief when she heard the good news. “That's good then.”

After that, she stared at Sammy and said coldly, “I won't pursue the matter since you have been a loyal worker but you have to leave. The Shurmer family cannot keep a butler who will harm her employer.”

What?

Without another word, Waverly turned and walked toward the infirmary.

Just as she turned around, her eyes darkened.

She was sure that someone had put Sammy up to that. There was only one person who could command Sammy and hated Shirley.

Zeke...

She did not expect that b*stard son of hers to be so vicious. He would not even spare his own flesh and blood.

Zeke was seeking revenge because he did not want to marry Shirley. To top it off, Waverly refused to allow Bailey to return to the Shurmer family. Is he trying to get back at me?

Zeke was indeed her son.

By the look of it, she could not just let him be.

Whether Zeke liked it or not, he would have to marry Shirley.

...

Meanwhile, at the top-floor office of the Shurmer Group, Zeke was eyeing Artemis with interest. Artemis had visited him out of the blue.

“What have I done to deserve such an honor? The great Mr. Luther is actually here to visit me despite his busy schedule.”

Artemis rolled his eyes and said nonchalantly, “I would have visited anyone who is my brother-in-law.”

In other words, Zeke had done nothing to deserve a visit from Artemis. It was only because of his special status. If another man was his brother-in-law, Artemis would have paid that man a visit too.

Zeke could not help but chuckle, “What can I do for you?”

“I have to leave Hallsbay for around ten days. Please take care of Bay.”
