“You're back.”

Waverly's voice could be heard coming from upstairs.

She stood at the landing and had no intention of coming down. Instead, she uttered coldly, “Come with me to the study first. I want to talk to you.”

Zeke nodded slightly and handed his briefcase to the servant who was standing nearby before he went upstairs.

In the study, Waverly glanced at him and went straight to the point. “Are you the one who ordered Sammy to hurt Shirley?”

Zeke did not deny it. “Yes, it's me. It was an accident the other night. I slept with her when I was in a delirious state. I didn't mean to. Even if she does give birth to the child, I won't be able to provide him with love and affection. Isn't it better for everyone if we get rid of the child now?”

Waverly let out a sarcastic chuckle before saying, “Well, at least you are honest enough to own up to your plot.”

“It's pointless for me to hide anything since you are already aware of it. Go on. What do you want to do with me now?”

“What do I want to do with you now?” Waverly raised her voice and became agitated. “What else am I supposed to do with you? You're my only son and the next patriarch of the Shurmer family. What do you expect me to do? Chase you out of the house?”

Zeke smiled faintly and said expressionless, “You love Zoey a lot, don't you? You're willing to give up your own biological daughter for her. It won't be a bad idea to let her run the Shurmer family.”

“B*stard.” Waverly was infuriated. “She has no blood relations with the Shurmer family. If I let her run the Shurmer family, there will be a change of ownership after a few decades, won't it?”

“So, you are also aware that she isn't related to the Shurmer family. Why, then, do you stop your own flesh and blood from coming home?”

“You—”

By the look of it, Waverly was about to have a heart attack. Zeke looked down and continued, “Are you forcing me to marry Shirley today?”

Waverly replied through gritted teeth, “Yes, you will have to register your marriage today. Zeke, you have already tried, but the baby is still alive. That proves that he is fated to be born into the Shurmer family. The doctor says it's a boy. Please pity the Shurmer family. We don't have many male heirs. I have been waiting for this grandson for so long. For your dad's and my sake, can you please go along with the plan?”

A bitter smile appeared on Zeke's face.

“Fine, as you wish. I'll register my marriage with Shirley. I hope you don't regret your decision in the future.”

With that, he turned around and walked toward the door.

Waverly got up on her feet all of a sudden and wanted to say something. However, when she saw him walking away in such a resolute manner, she did not. Instead, her legs turned soft, and she fell back onto the couch.

Neither my son nor daughter is on good terms with me. Did I really do something wrong?

At the Luther residence, Bailey was sitting on the couch in silence after finding out that the Shurmer family had forced Zeke to officiate the marriage with Shirley.

She felt both hapless and pity at the same time.

Bailey could tell that her brother did not like Shirley. Yet, he had been forced to marry her. She worried that it would be an unhappy marriage for the two of them.

To be honest, she did not think that Shirley was good enough for Zeke. He deserved to marry a powerful and capable woman who could be his equal.

Only such a woman would not humiliate her brother's character and spirit. Zeke would not have to compromise if he married such a woman.

Obviously, there was nothing Bailey could do about it even though she felt sorry for Zeke. She was not even acknowledged by the Shurmer family as one of them. There was no way she could voice her opinion regarding her brother's marriage.

The main issue was Shirley's pregnancy. She—

“Bailey, Bailey! Big news! Big news in Adrune!”

Zayron rushed down the stairs and launched himself onto the couch before throwing the tablet into Bailey's arms.

Felicity scolded him with a smile, “You brat! Can't you walk properly? What happens if you fall from the stairs?”

Zayron shrugged his shoulders and said, “Then I'll become Humpty-Dumpty.”

The adults were speechless.
