Lionel's eyes darkened, and there was a hint of sorrow on his face. It has just been a few days since I stopped monitoring him. Yet, he already ended up in such a wretched state, huh? I can't believe he's even thinking about selling the company. Eighteen billion. He sold his shares for a total of eighteen billion. Did he run out of money so soon? Even if he were to burn the bills one by one, he could've spent years doing that. Now, it hasn't even been a month, yet he has already squandered all the money.

“Don't panic. I'll find out more about the situation. If you really don't want Saunders Group's ownership to change, I can fork out the funds and acquire it,” Lionel suggested.

Victoria shook her head while shedding tears. “It's useless. He offloaded all his shares, so the Saunders family is no longer the company's biggest shareholder. Even if we get to keep the company, the chairman will be changed as well.”

After a brief moment of silence, Lionel decided to tell her the truth. “Vicky, I've bought all the shares sold by your brother at the market price. If you want to restructure Saunders Group, I will transfer the shares to you and finance you so that the company can return to its normal operations.”

Hearing that, Victoria widened her eyes and stared at him in disbelief. She asked with a trembling voice, “D-Did you really buy all the shares and didn't let them fall into an outsider's possession?”

Lionel reached out and brushed her stray strands of hair, then spoke in a hoarse voice. “I know you love your family and the company built by your ancestors. You'll be sad if the company's ownership is transferred. The only thing I could do to make sure you wouldn't get upset was to buy all the shares.”

Her body was shivering violently as she looked at him tearfully, and she choked out, “Victor's shares must've cost at least twenty billion. I can't believe you're willing to spend such a huge amount of money to buy the shares just for me. Lionel, why? Why did you do that?”

Lionel hugged her tightly and chuckled. “Because you're my wife, and you're pregnant with my child. Money is just an external thing. If I can spend this money in exchange for a happy and comfortable life for you, I'll do it even if I go bankrupt!”

“B-But I'm just pregnant with a daughter. She can't help you carry on the Gezmond family name—”

Before she could finish speaking, Lionel bopped her head with his fist. “The baby is listening to you in your tummy. She won't like you if you keep saying such silly words.”

Victoria remained silent.

He caressed her cheek. In truth, he had always felt guilty toward Victoria. Although Victoria did nothing wrong, I hurt her deeply. Her mother wasn't in the wrong either, yet she died because of my father's scheming. This mother-daughter duo was dragged down by my father and me. I will bear the guilt of this forever.

“So, have you decided yet? What is it going to be?” Lionel asked.

Victoria lowered her head and replied slowly, “Then please acquire Saunders Group. I've thought it through. I can't just let the company that my ancestors put in so much effort to build get destroyed like this. Besides, I've already been kind enough toward Victor for providing him the assets worth tens of billions. Since he squandered all the money in just a month's time, I no longer owe him anything.”

Hearing that, Lionel let out a chuckle. “I'm glad you've seen the light. Don't be so agitated next time. If not, you'll be the one suffering if you fall sick.”

“Okay.”

Meanwhile, in the living room of the Xuereb residence, Olivia looked at Tamara cautiously and probed, “May I know why you're here, Mrs. Fletcher?”

Tamara remained quiet and merely glanced at the maids who were standing on both sides next to her, her intentions clear.

Acknowledging the meaning of Tamara's look, Olivia quickly summoned the butler to lead the maids out of the living room. When Tamara and Olivia were the only ones left, the latter tentatively asked again, “How may I help you, Mrs. Fletcher?”
