My body trembled the entire walk back to the house, but somehow, I managed to keep my footsteps even and my shoulders back.

The moment I was inside, though, I crumbled. I drew in a shaky breath, leaning back against the wall for support. My heart was racing. I felt a pang through the mate bond, but quickly clamped down my mental blockade, ensuring Gideon couldn't reach me.
