Avery's POV

An all too familiar car was waiting in Aldric's driveway when I arrived. Gideon was standing beside it, leaning against the door with his arms folded.

The moment I saw him, a pang shot through my temples. Oh, no. I knew that pain all too well. For a moment, I considered turning around and leaving. But I had an appointment today, and Gideon had already seen me, so I had no choice. I clenched my jaw as I put the car in park and climbed out. Gideon was already moving toward me and waving.

"Don't," I said, reaching for my bag in the back seat. He stopped a few feet away.

"Just... don't." I grabbed my bag, shutting the car door behind me, and walked past him. I could already feel a headache coming on.
