Ever since Earl got nabbed, the Abernathy Group had been making the headlines with all sorts of bad press. And now they’ve taken Elspeth away. It all happened so fast, and people from the Abernathy Group didn’t even have time to blink.
“Why are you arresting me? What evidence do you have?” Elspeth was shaking all over, her carefully maintained posh facade crumbling to bits.
Glynnis turned pale as a ghost. She stuck in place like she was turned to stone, watching in horror as her mother was taken away.
“Frederic, save me! You have to save me!” Elspeth cried, tears streaming down her face.
Frederic was red in the face with anxiety. He wanted to step in but didn’t want to be embarra**ed in front of everyone else. Instead, he vented his anger at Evadne, “Ms. Evadne, what the hell is this?”
“Mr. Frederic, it’s the prosecutor’s office that took your wife. Why are you yelling at me?” Evadne smirked, cool as a cucumber.
“How did you know what was going to be on the news? How could you make those cryptic comments before? Did you pull the strings behind all this?”
“Ashbourne family has a lot of connections. How could we not know about something even the media knows?” There was a hint of disdain in Evadne’s eyes. Frederic was furious, “Ms. Evadne, it’s not our fault that you and Thaddeus got divorced! It’s just not meant to be!”
Mr. and Mrs. Bartley were shocked to their cores.
The Ashbourne and Abernathy families were once united in marriage? When did that happen? What a shocker!
“Because of your divorce, you harbor resentment and exact revenge on the Abernathy Group, causing all sorts of damage. Isn’t that too much, too petty?”
The words were so harsh that even Jason felt a twinge in his heart. He was ready to stand up for Evadne.
But then, Thaddeus stepped forward.
He shielded Evadne from Frederic, standing tall and cold.
“Mr. Frederic, it’s a bit rash to say that all this was done by Ms. Evadne without any proof.”
“Thaddeus, are you defending her?”
Frederic was so insane he was hopping mad, “You guys are divorced, and she’s not only stirring up trouble. She’s also biting back at the Abernathy Group. Why are you protecting a woman like that?”

Thaddeus looked at Evadne with deep, inscrutable eyes. Evadne glanced at him and sneered, looking away with disgust.
He and his father were both fools who were easily fooled by women.
“I believe that she didn’t do these things.” Thaddeus said word by word.
Evadne turned to look at him in surprise. He turned his head away, “Even if we’re divorced, I’ll stand by her side if she’s misunderstood.”
Suddenly, he smiled. “Even if we’re not divorced, my wife doesn’t need your criticism.”
Evadne was taken aback, her lips pursed and her ears tingling.
What did he mean by that? It was hard to understand.
Frederic was so furious he could hear his ears ringing, and his high blood pressure was about to kick in.
If it weren’t for the others present, he would’ve charged forward and taught this impudent young man a lesson!
Seeing them start to bicker, Evadne felt a sense of satisfaction and didn’t bother with Frederic any longer.
After all, her plan was working. There was just one more step to go.
“I think you have a busy day ahead. I won’t bother you any longer. Goodbye.”
Then Evadne and Jason turned and walked towards the ferry.
*Ms. Evadne! Wait a moment please!” Mr. Bartley wiped his sweat and quickly caught up. “I think we can have a detailed discussion about the Westguard!”
“I agree.” Evadne smiled slightly, her attitude clearly showing her upper hand. “I’ll arrange a meeting with you in the next few days. Wait for my message.”
“Sure. Anytime!” Mr. Bartley was as enthusiastic as ever.
“Ms. Evadne, if you don’t mind, can I bring my son along? I’m sure he would be honored to meet you!” Mrs. Bartley was all smiles, eagerly joining in.
Who wouldn’t want to meet the daughter of Skyrim’s wealthiest man?
Thaddeus’s face darkened.
Evadne should be protected, and he didn’t want her to parade around. She was too beautiful and too attention-grabbing!
“Mrs. Bartley, thank you.” Evadne smiled. “But I’ve been divorced and it’s a bit awkward. I also don’t plan on getting married anytime soon, so it’s best not to waste your son’s time.”
“What does divorce matter? Even divorced, Ms. Evadne, you are much better than those other girls who are all looks!”
Upon hearing this, Glynnis blushed in anger. She gritted her teeth in hatred and glared at Evadne.
Evadne was like the bright, dazzling sun in the sky. With her around, everything else paled in comparison.
The ferry started, and Evadne completed her mission, leaving the Abernathy family in chaos.
“Mr. Frederic, let’s call the Westguard project cooperation off for now. We can collaborate on other suitable projects in the future.”
Then Mr. Bartley and his wife hurriedly left.
If the project he was handling went south, he was the one who’s gonna have to bear the responsibility!
As Frederic was at his wit’s end, he realized that his son had disappeared at some point.
Evadne slipped out of her golfing gear and back into her chic, ice-cold lady of the manor outfit in the changing room. She tidied up her hair and strutted out of the room in her high heels.
